Textiles from Matrix
“Materialise” is the company that manufactures textiles without a weaver’s loom.
On the catwalk there have been recently represented the first models of dresses, made of materials that are not fabrics in fact.
One needs a loom to produce a grey fabric; at least it has been so for a long time. Of course, we know that the textile industry is in its transformation process. Actually, it has always been one of those industries, influencing the technical progress, characterized by appearance of new challenges.
However, the fabrics made by “Materialise” are fundamentally different. They are literally made of dust, and do not have much to do with the whole production process in general.
Iris van Herpen is one of the first designers who dressed her models in the fabrics by “Materialse”. The collection is imaginative and fanciful.
From our perspective, fashion is nothing more than interior design, only the key figure in the room is a person. If to look at the represented models of dresses using this approach to fashion, you remain breathless at the thought of how these materials could put a twist on our interiors.
When Wilfried Vancraen from Belgium began to work with the topic of “Rapid Prototyping” about 20 years ago, he probably had no idea where this would lead him. Today his company is a leading provider of software and techniques that can make almost everything from almost anything.
Among other things, the company is now manufacturing furniture and fabrics that are formed and solidified on the basis of a 3D image using a 3D printer.
With the introduction of these technologies, manufacturers are sure to succeed in the creative sector. This production is a resource that can always provide manufacturing of things of the same quality. Especially in development of prototypes, this has become a huge leap. This should allow much more creative talents to win our “interior worlds” and perhaps to conquer our hearts.
We love our fabrics, looms clatter and history of textiles. Nevertheless, we are happy to see the fabrics originating from the matrix, and our rooms are seasoned with an odor of future.
We are looking forward and follow the innovations!
